Who is eligible to become a member of the NLB Pension Fund?

In accordance with the Law on pension and disability insurance, the policy holders entering employment for the first time after the 1st of January 2003, are members of the Second pension pillar. Immediately after their employment, these persons are temporarily assigned to one of the existing mandatory pension funds from the second pillar, by random selection by the state. These persons have the legal right to choose which mandatory pension fund they would like to members of, 3 (three) months after starting their first job The selection of the mandatory pension fund is made by signing a membership Contract within the selected mandatory pension fund. If they fail to choose a mandatory pension fund themselves, then these persons will become members of the mandatory pension fund to which they were previously assigned on temporary basis. This members will receive a writeen notice. 

In accordance with the Law on pension and disability insurance, the policy holders-members of Chapter VII from the Law on pension and disability insurance (policy holders under special conditions) and individual farmers are excluded from membership from the Second pillar.

If the policy holders qualify under Chapter VII from the Law on pensions and disability insurance change their status and no longer qualify under Chapter VII from the Law on pensions and disability insurance, they have the right to become members with a mandatory pension fund of their choice within a year of the status change. The policy holders that have become members of the mandatory pension fund and sometime after are qualified under Chapter VII from the Law on pensions and disability insurance with pension service by their own choice can decide to terminate the membership with the mandatory pension fund and return to the one-pillar system within the year. If that is the case, then the paid contributions in the second pillar are transferred to Fund for Pension and Disability Insurance of Macedonia and once retired, the entity can collect his full pension from the PDIM Fund. If there is a change in status of the policy holder, the policy holders qualified under Chapter VII from the Law on pensions and disability insurance can by their own choice disregard the determined status only once. This right is enabled through the Agency for supervision of fully funded pension insurance (MAPAS) and you can find the application form on the Agency’s website www.mapas.mk For this category of members and by an additional provision in the Law on pensions and disability insurance, it is specified that the right for age pensions can be realised from the second pillar in accordance with the provisions relating to the policy holders and members of the second pillar or they can choose to exercise their right to age pension only from the first pillar whereby the funds from the second pillar are transferred to the PDIM Fund.
